Agreement to supply ultrathin substrates for use in Lithium Sulphur Batteries

Agreement to supply ultrathin substrates for use in Lithium Sulphur Batteries delivering above 400 Wh/kg specific energy

Armor SAS is a global supplier of specialty metal foils for the battery industry.

RENO, Nevada, January 6th, 2020 ─ NexTech Batteries Inc. (“NexTech” or the “Company”), a leading developer and manufacturer of lithium-sulfur batteries with extremely high specific energy for use in Electric Vehicles (EVs), grid storage and consumer markets, is pleased to announce that the Company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Armor SAS (Armor), a leading French company in the field of innovative substrate materials for batteries.

Under the terms of the MOU, NexTech and Armor will have an agreement to supply NexTech with a significant volume of Armor ultrathin primed aluminum foils; a key substrate material for reducing the weight and augmenting power of Lithium-Sulphur batteries. The volume to be supplied is likely to be in the order of millions of square meters annually and scaling up from there.

Preceding this agreement NexTech has already completed significant testing, which has validated the effectiveness of Armor materials for the reduction in weight and the increased power performance of LithiumSulphur batteries. In addition, NexTech is in the process of scaling up its pilot line, in order to meet increasing demand from customers for its batteries.

NexTech was founded in 2016 and owns the exclusive license to the intellectual property relating to Lithium Sulphur batteries, developed by the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, a US Department of Energy Office of Science laboratory, managed by University of California.

Bill Burger, Chief Executive of NexTech, commented: “We are very excited about the opportunity we have to leverage Armor materials and apply them to the manufacturing of our Lithium-Sulfur batteries. We look forward to bringing to market next generation batteries with extremely high specific energy and enabling the widespread implementation of EVs.”
“NexTech’s vision is to become the leading company in the world for energy storage, and lighter battery materials and higher energy density are clearly key to achieving these goals and NexTech will leverage Armor innovative substrates to make such vision a reality.”
Hubert de Boisredon, Chief Executive of Armor, commented: “This partnership with NexTech is a proof of ARMOR’s ability to serve the energy storage market with our En’ Safe® foils. NexTech leadership and technical personnel are focused on bringing to market LithiumSulfur batteries with unique performances. We are proud to be supporting them in achieving their goals”
